Think twice before going through with these treatments

With so many cosmetic treatments becoming available to the public, sometimes it is difficult to know which ones actually provide results and which ones will leave you dissatisfied. Non-surgical treatments have become very popular among patients because of their non-invasive nature and the fact that they are usually performed in a short amount of time.

Unfortunately, not all non-surgical treatments are able to provide the same results as their surgical counterparts, even when they claim to do so. At Nesmith Plastic Surgery Center, our Gainesville plastic surgeons care about helping you obtain the long-lasting results you want through the best treatment options available to you.

Before you spend money on one of the latest non-surgical treatments, you should be aware of what’s involved.

The “Vampire” Facelift

The vampire facelift is a procedure that has become increasingly popular, partly due to the traction that it has gained amongst celebrities. The treatment is based on injecting the patient with his or her own pale yellow blood plasma around the eyes and mouth. It comes from a similar technique used to promote healing after orthopedic surgery.

Unfortunately, despite some people claiming visible results, no independent studies have actually proven its cosmetic benefits. The treatment is also not actually a facelift, and its basis is in the belief that growth factors in plasma can stimulate collagen production in the face to reduce signs of aging.

Another issue with the treatment is that a vampire facial is often combined with a hyaluronic acid filler, such as Juvéderm. Because of the acid’s similar effects, it is difficult to determine which substance is actually creating the results. Plasma extraction is also very expensive and can quickly raise the price of the filler treatment.

Permanent fillers for lips

Injectable fillers are cosmetic gels that are injected into the skin in order to “fill out” spaces in the face where extra volume is desired, such as the lips or to smooth out wrinkles. Most of the fillers used during treatment are temporary, meaning that multiple treatments are necessary over time in order to maintain results.

Some fillers exist that last longer in the body, known as permanent fillers, and they have become increasingly attractive to consumers, especially for use in the lips. However, permanent fillers can lead to a number of complications, such as lumps, a larger size than expected, scar tissue around the substance creating nodules and drifting which can lead to a distorted appearance. Because of this, most cosmetic surgeons agree on only using temporary fillers like Juvéderm injections.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is one of the biggest trends in non-surgical cosmetic treatments at the moment. The treatment delivers cooling to the fatty layers to destroy fat cells in areas with unwanted fat collection. Because of the shorter recovery time and decreased pain that it claims to have compared to traditional liposuction, many patients are opting for it as an alternative treatment for fat removal.

However, it might not be able to deliver everything that it promises. CoolSculpting is not a one-time treatment like it’s often made out to be, nor are there any indications that the results are as significant as liposuction. Many times patients have to undergo several treatments, spending unnecessary money, and in the end, resort to traditional surgery, like liposuction, in order to have more noticeable and long-lasting results.

Treatment from board-certified plastic surgeons

Although non-surgical treatments may seem like the ideal alternative to plastic surgery due to reduced recovery times and lower costs, many times they are not. Non-surgical treatments do not always produce results to the same extent that surgery can.

Because of their limited effects, they often require more treatments which lead to unnecessary money spent as well as stress on the body in order to recover from treatment time and time again.

Plastic surgery is proven to be safe and effective at achieving your desired look with less treatments and less risk.
